EffectClean your hair gently and naturally with this soapnuts-based shampoo. The scalp and hair keep their natural goodies while the dirt is removed. Vitamin E and Tea Tree oil nourish the scalp and hair, and act as natural preservatives.
Why did i make it?I was looking for a gentle shampoo that would not strip my hair of its natural oils and protections. All commercial shampoos gave me dandruff, and I felt it was time to switch to a natural and healthy alternative.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS
SOAPNUT originates from plant
The soapnut is the fruit of the Ritha (Reetha) tree, which grows in India and Nepal. It contains saponin, which has natural cleansing properties, and can be used as a cleanser for hair, skin, and clothing. It is a natural botanic cleanser that will not strip your skin and hair of their natural oil protection.
ALOE VERA originates from plant
A popular plant since centuries for both medical and cosmetic purposes, Aloe Vera is best known for its moisturizing, soothing and calming properties. It is excellent for sensitive or dry skin, and supplies moisture directly to the skin tissue.
GLYCERIN originates from plant
Glycerin is a humectant used often in moisturizers. It has good water-binding qualities and is able to draw and absorb water from the air, thus helping the skin retain moisture. Glycerin also improves the spreading qualities of creams and lotions. It is made chemically by combining water with a vegetable-derived oil.
TEA TREE OIL originates from plant
With its strong anti-microbial abilities, Tea Tree Oil is mostly known for its benefits for acne prone skin. It also stops itching and reduces redness for people suffer from dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema. It is suitable for all skin types.
LEMON OIL originates from plant
Obtained from the fresh peel of citrus lemon, lemon oil is popular in aromatherapy, and is considered a good natural preservative. It is anti-septic and counterirritant.
VITAMIN E originates from plant
Obtained by distillation of vegetable oils, this important anti-oxidant fights free radicals like no other. By protecting against oxidation, it also serves as a natural preservative. It is well absorbed through the skin and is able to enhance blood circulation in it. In addition, it improves the skin's water-binding abilities and reduces water loss.
HYALURONIC ACID originates from yeast
Hyaluronic Acid is a natural moisturizer with excellent water-binding abilities that occurs naturally in the dermis. Its water retention abilities give also immediate smoothness and improve skin appearance.
how to mix it
Prepare Soapnuts shampoo basePlace the soapnuts and 1.5 cups water in an open pot and bring to boil. Let simmer for 20 minutes. Every few minutes squash the nuts with a spoon to allow more saponin (the cleansing agent in the nuts) to be released. The liquid will become brown and foamy. Remove from heat and strain the liquid through a clean thin kitchen towel into a bowl.
Mix it togetherAdd the Aloe Vera and Glycerin to the bowl. stir. Add the Tea Tree and Lemon oils, and break in the Vitamin E capsule. stir well.
Let it thickenAdd the Hyaluronic Acid powder. Do not stir. The powder will not mix: you will notice chunks of it in the liquid. Move the mix to the fridge for 1-2 hours. Now the powder have dissolved. Using a funnel, transfer the mix to the empty bottle, and shake it well. It will become foamy and slightly thicker, but still quite thin. Your shampoo is ready!
How to applyUse 1-2 times a week. Because of its liquid consistency, you will use more material than with commercial shampoo. Apply the shampoo to wet hair, massage gently in your scalp, wait for 5 minutes and the rinse thoroughly. Always shake well before use. Be careful not to let it in your eyes (not recommended for young children). The shampoo is best kept in the fridge.
